  • The Bridge & The Salmon Run 1

The Bridge & The Salmon Run 1

A bright early Autumn morning and the water is flowing freely after rains. The sun gradually waking everything up and lovely dappled bits everywhere on this fresh awake day. The fish may well be jumping - at any time !

  • The Salmon Run on a busy day 1

The Salmon Run on a busy day 1

Water levels not too high here so we get a look at the superstructure of most of this very useful bit of kit if you’re a fish wanting to get back to the large lake where you first began and the reproductive cycle is calling you back. These waters go much faster than they look. This shot was at 4000th of a second and it is still moving fast ! The late afternoon light just picking up some of those rich gold hues the water makes as it rears up and catches the light.

  • The River in full flood

    The River in full flood

Not far downstream from the Salmon Run, the rest of the river is fast moving and getting rid of the excess water that the weir and the Salmon Run had jammed up. Everything here looks like it’s in a hurry !. The swift breeze of this day moving the tops of the waters as well as the vegetation. A busy Autumn day on he River !

  • River Rapids on an Autumn Day

River Rapids on an Autumn Day

The full River coming round the unseen bend at the mid left of the shot then hitting the submerged rocks and getting all ruffled, before settling down on the other side of the obstruction and powering on unimpeded towards the right of the shot, and beyond A breezy Autumn Day on the fast moving River

  • A soft Autumn Day 1

    A soft Autumn Day 1

Colours and shapes, textures and architectures are all softened on this calm peaceful Autumn Day. A bit like a Constable painting, in the way it all merges into a holistic wholeness, with the darks allowing the visible things to loom in and out. A soft patina over everything on this day. Noticeably peaceful to walk around in.

These waters go much faster than they look. This shot was at 4000th of a second and it is still moving fast ! The late afternoon light all gone now and the sort of blueish tones you get when the sunlight disappears off water turns these streams of living water into beautiful amorphous movements for us.

  • Winter on the River 1

    Winter on the River 1

The nice juxtaposition of the calm still water just before the mini rapids and the ruffled water after. Many trees all bare now for the winter months and everything can have that sort of cold look and empty feel, but really, there is so much wonderfulness in each season, it just takes spending time and allowing the eyes of our spirit, heart and mind the chance to open up to what is all around us, all of the time - which is truly wonderful !

    Winter on the River 7

These wonderful winter waters, slowed down to snow their movement, are one of the many benefits of sparser winter foliage because you get to be able to see them rather than have them all shielded by summer vegetation. • River Rapids 1

    River Rapids 1

On a sunny Summer morning these small waterfalls make a lovely energetic and alive sight amongst the dark rocks. Slow shutter speeds giving the water a bit of movement and the green tree leaves giving us some contrasting colour to enjoy.

  • River Rapids 2

    River Rapids 2

On a sunny Summer morning these small waterfalls make a lovely energetic and alive sight amongst the dark rocks. Slow shutter speeds giving the water a bit of movement and the interplay of light and shadow giving us just enough interest to enjoy what’s going on.

  • A Calm Summer day on the River

A Calm Summer day on the River

The crystal clear surface waters here reflecting the lush summer growth of both banks and the small rock waterfalls at the far end are just visible. A peaceful early few moments at the beginning of this day that promises to be as warm as yesterday.

  • Low Summer water levels on the River

Low Summer water levels on the River

A hot late afternoon Summer day on the River, with not much rain in the past few weeks so water levels are right down and show us much of what’s under there and usually out of sight. The nice patina on the water surface giving some blueish reflections from the sky and along with a sense of the movement of that water also. Everything and everyone looking forward to a cooler evening.

  • As evening comes to the River

As evening comes to the River

The very last of the Summer sunlight just lighting up a small part of this shot, whilst all the rest is in the darkening evening light that still shows detail but you now have to search for it. I like this shot, even though I am tempted to leave it out because it may not immediately be ‘seen’ by other folk but, and, I still like it. It’s what the evening looks and feels like as the light finally just dies away - and all the rest of what’s in front of you keeps right on living.

  • Massed roots at low ‘tide’

    Massed roots at low ‘tide’

This elderly tree ha seen much on this River and its’ extended root system shows us it has learned how to make sure it always has enough precious water to suck up - gallons per hour ! It has similarities to a number of different animals, both under and above where water is to be found. There’s something about survival success that gets our worthy attention and respect.
