  • Winter Woodland twigs, branches and grasses.

Winter Woodland twigs, branches and grasses.

This big old clump of trees sit at the edge of the start of a long tree-lined driveway into this vast parkland proper and has developed this wonderful architecture which is only seeable when it’s leaves are all shed for the winter. The nice serried lean of the younger line of trees to the right of the shot give a sense of the good husbandry of this vast open parkland and the many blessings every part of it offers to all who are privileged to be here. It gets long late afternoon light and the rich hues of copper and browns get delineated beautifully in this pale warm soft late afternoon light. The grasses here add the kind of colour contrasts that seem to make the shot - for me anyway.

  • More of Natures’ Architecture

    More of Natures’ Architecture

These winter small trees and large shrubs give us all their wonderful architecture during the winter months and small old fallen brown curled leaves hang, caught, in their myriad interlacings - a small reminder of what autumn looked like. You get to see the birds flitting and squirrels running, much more often in these conditions, with all the leaves gone, than in the warmer seasons. They don’t seem to mind though. They’re quicker than us and always curious about what we’re doing here !

  • A Typical Woodland edge.

    A Typical Woodland edge.

This optimistic bit of timber has long lost its’ fence mesh either side of it and now stands as a lone symbol of mans’ involvement with this bit of the edge of the forest, whilst the forest gets on and does what it constantly does, man notwithstanding Wonderful what Mankind, at our best, has been able to make of and with the provision of our Natural World. The nice juxtaposition of what Nature makes and what Man makes of it, caught my attention here, and I wanted to remember that difference.

  • Winter Woodland Trees

    Winter Woodland Trees

These wonderful Winter trees look as if at least four of them are auditioning for The Burning Bush’ sequence in a Biblical Film somewhere ! Wonderful what the late afternoon sunlight can do across hues and shapes sometimes. It just catches the ochre hues of these trees and enhances the, to the point where, with one eye closed, they could well be another burning bush or three. And what would our response be if we found that to be so ! The same as Moses’ ? (Exodus 3/1-4)

  • Pasture and woodland on a cloudy winter day.

Pasture and woodland on a cloudy winter day.

The pale cloudy sunlight just coming through onto some of the far pasture and the left side of the trees, gives this whole shot a bit of a ‘Constable Effect’ maybe. There was no light and I was ready to pack up but suddenly this shard of light came onto the shot and made it worth the wait. A ‘nice’ British landscape, if you will.

  • Reflections in a dull pool of water

Reflections in a dull pool of water

Almost not enough light but I liked the reflections so much I waited a bit and just made it - maybe. Tress are wonderful ! Apart from giving Humans oxygen to breathe they give us produce and raw materials, wildlife habitats, fertilization of the good earth all around them and, of course, Beauty - which is not to be sneezed at. Form and Function in Nature are inseparable and, usually, in that order. Thank You Father God.

  • Reflections in a little less of a dull pool of water

Reflections in a little less of a dull pool of water

This time the light was stronger (than in the previous shot) and it shows in the livelier feel of the whole shot. A little bit of a break in the cloud and some blue up there, as well as some of that light spill picking up some of the water surface detritus, giving us a bit more of a 3D effect. Winter landscape in the north of the UK.

  • Late February Daffodils in All their Glory

Late February Daffodils in All their Glory

This elderly tree has become a haven for Daffodils and by late February this large gathering of these wonderfully optimistic yellow flowers is in full bloom. Buffeted by winds and every breath of breeze, they move and wave and have their being, and bring smiles to hearts wherever they are to be found. Such a Joy and also good fertilizer for the good soil all around them, season by loving season.

Late April Cherry Tree Blossoms in the UK

These wonderful pink and white blossoms bring joy to hearts and a real awakening of the Spring Summer arrival, just round the corner. Each blossom somehow seems just a little bit different than its’ neighbours yet, all together, they just dazzle with their beauty and energetic joy, especially against blue skies and in sunlight. A gift to us all - no wonder the Japanese take their whole Family and camp out under such trees and picnic and rejoice at such beauty and the changing of the season.

  • Elderly trees surrounded by bluebells in wood

Elderly trees surrounded by bluebells in wood

Bluebells are notoriously difficult to show clearly because the either come across as too insipid and weedy or way overblown in a blue hue that bears no relation to reality and is one pastiche to far. Have tried for the real look here and, if you be patient, it starts to grow on you. This is what they really look, anyway, and they remain one of Natures’ more stunning sights when you see them amassed with a touch of sunlight across them here or there. Such a delicacy in their look and yet such strength in getting themselves through and out of the ground and up past other detritus.

Elderly tree blessed with Daffodils and bluebells

With the early Spring sunlight dappling this lovely tree, the daffs and bluebells shine at their best in the colder days before the summer in these northern parts of the UK starts getting closer. Such optimistic colours and friendly shapes. This old tree has seen many such plants and flowers come and go but the peaceful look and feel of the terrain here keeps getting more and more bedded in and worthy of a pause as this part of the growing season comes round yet again.

Daffs and trees supporting each other

This shot is just a bit further up than the previous two shots and gives us some nice white and orange daffs in the mix as well as two younger but still strong and reliable trees. The breezy day and the on and off sunlight brings that nice freshness which this early Springtime can bless us all with,
